The Institute for Transport Planning and Systems (IVT) is part of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering (D-BAUG) at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich. IVT is engaged in teaching, research and consulting in the following areas:

SMA und Partner AG is an independent consulting firm with its head office in Zurich, Switzerland, and a branch office in the Swiss city of Lausanne. It was founded in 1987. The main focus of SMA’s activity is service and operations planning in railway transport. Thanks to its specific understanding of the railway as a system, SMA is in a position to competently advise a client in all stages of the planning process and to bring in experience gained in numerous projects throughout Europe.

OpenTrack Railway Technology Ltd develops and markets simulation tools for public transport systems, provides consulting services in railway information technology, and develops data exchange formats for railway applications. OpenTrack Railway Technology is a spin-off-company from the ETH Zurich.

Since its founding in 2003, the core competence of systransis AG lies in the development of transport information systems in the railway field. We specialise in modern systems for the optimisation of rail traffic and train operations. Such systems allow optimal use of existing infrastructure regarding energy efficiency, capacity, operational stability and reduction of delays.
