Switzerland’s Rail 2000 project is known as the first one in the world in which all the technical components of the railway were considered together as a system
, including: - service concept, - timetable, - infrastructure and - rolling stock. These elements were considered in an iterative, coordinated and simultaneous process as the basis for optimised and market-oriented services. Another factor was the financial constraints that accompanied every step.
