| Cost-benefit evaluation of timetables |

A central factor in evaluating timetables is the cost-benefit ratio. On the cost side, Viriato can help determine the essential cost drivers: annual train kilometres and required rolling stock rotations. Until now, assessing benefits required large, time-consuming demand models. SMA has developed a process that weights timetable data from Viriato with external data to estimate ridership potential. With the help of spatial structure data, this process yields an estimate of potential demand. Results for the Fourth Extension of the Zurich metropolitan area rail network (S-Bahn) will be presented.
